Step into the colorful world of 1860's France with Art of the Impressionists from ARTistic Pursuits, an engaging, hands-on art course, designed for elementary students. Explore how a group of innovative artists challenged traditional approaches to art during the rapidly changing Industrial Age, capturing the beauty of everyday life, light, and movement through bold new colors and expressive brush marks. Meet the artists who shaped Impressionism and its legacy, including Manet, Morisot, Monet, Degas, Renoir, and more! Explore the work of sculptors Pompon and Rodin, as well as Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty.
Through 18 lessons and creative projects, children will discover the stories behind the Impressionist movement. Each art history lesson begins with an engaging interactive read-aloud that sparks curiosity and builds comprehension. Children then explore a Master Artwork through guided questions that encourage them to look closely, share their observations, and discover new ideas. They immediately put their learning into practice through a hands-on art project, using materials and techniques introduced in the video lessons, to create original artwork that expresses their own ideas.
Video lessons introduce children to new materials and techniques, inviting them to paint with gouache paint, layer oil pastels, sculpt with modeling clay, and explore plaster cloth construction while understanding how to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional art in their own style.
Combining art history, practical demonstrations, and imaginative projects, this course encourages children to look at the world with fresh eyes and discover the joy of creating!
